The Whole Family for Thanksgiving

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with 10 of us around the dinner table for this year's feast.  We are truly blessed!  Enjoy some of our family moments . . .

Cool Season Gardening

One of the many wonderful things about living in the South is year round vegetable gardening.  We actually had cucumbers and potatoes volunteer in the compost pile and we ate them at Thanksgiving!  Aside from volunteers, we have planted

Mustard Greens

Landscaping and LAWN!

Debby has been very busy this fall digging, planting, and mulching!  Pete helped with a new picket fence to surround what will be a cottage garden in the front of the house.

Carport to Studio!

Pete is back to construction, but this time it didn't require a new foundation . . . well, ok . . . he did have to pour 10 yards of concrete to level the 7 inch slope.

Then . . . . . in October . . .

We went to the SC State Fair looking for goats, chickens, and donkeys.  This is a mini donkey I have my eye on . . .  after Christmas!

Sooooooo. . . . in August . . .

The siding was finished

Siding is Going Up

Pete has started the siding and thinks he's about 1/2 done with it.  The gable ends and some of the other areas need to wait until the roofers return and finish the roof trim.

Enjoying the Garden

We have been enjoying the fruits of our garden this summer.  The wax beans and lettuce are done.  We're eating cabbage, tomatos, and cantelopes.  The cucumbers were prolific and delicious!  We turned the last of them into pickles.

Out with the Old, In with the New . . . Roof

Of course, the first week of July was the hottest on record here in Prosperity.  Yes, you're reading that right, our thermometer (in the shade) reads 112.  My car thermometer driving home from work read 117!!!

Finally the Roof and Siding get Started

Removing the Old

My Landscaping Continues . . .

I have been spending a lot of time digging, planting, weeding, and mulching.  I love it!  I now have 4 large beds completed and another almost done.  Enjoy!  I am!

Just kidding . . . this is in The Netherlands . . . Pete and I took a river cruise there in April!

Fence Progress

Pete tried digging the post holes with the help of Duke . . . .

Finishing the "Bunker"

Here are a few pics of the "bunker" as it blends into the landscape.  We're storing wine . . . fortunately haven't needed it for a storm shelter thus far!

Landscaping Started!

Debby has been itching to dig in the soil and start landcaping  - that always makes it seem more homey!  Until the new siding and roof are installed, there's no point of planting around the house itself.  However, some of the other beds are started!

The "Bunker"

Ok  . . . . it's a root cellar/wine cellar/storm shelter . . . but for those of you who know the Greenlaw men, it's a bunker!!!

The Porch Update

When I last posted in January, Pete was working on the wrap-around porch.  Shortly after that, we had the concrete floor poured.  This is one of the few projects Pete actually has had someone else do.

Out Mending Fences

We're planning for our first farm animals this spring ~~~ goats!  So in preparation, the fence line needs some repair.

On to the Outside

With the interior finished, and the Holidays over, Pete is moving onto the next big project - The Porch.  He has torn the old front porch off and is preparing the foundation to pour concrete this week.  The new porch will wrap around one side (west) of the house.  Here's some "in progress" pictures from this week . . .

First Christmas at the Farm

We had a wonderful first Christmas at the Farm, enjoying a Christmas Eve feast with loved ones in the new farmhouse kitchen and a weekend of Christmas celebrations!

Final Touches on the Interior

Pete took the month of December to just relax and refresh from the hard work of finishing the interior of the farm house.  I took the opportunity to unpack some more boxes.  It's amazing how much "stuff" we gave away and yet how much remains.  The great thing about moving to a much smaller space is the opportunity to really simplify. As I open each box, I continue to hone down our belongings to things we really use, things with true sentimental value, or things that we just love.  I'm trying to organize as I unpack so everything that we keep has a place and can be found, used, and enjoyed!
